Itinerary
Day 01: Leh –
Kanji 4
hrs.
Drive to Heniskut. Enroute
visit Lamayuru Monastery, one
of the oldest in Ladakh. Have
lunch in a restaurant. Over
night stay at camp.
Day 02: Kanji –
Kanji-la Base 6-7
hrs.
Walk along Kanji valley before
you reach to the base of Kanji
la Pass. Camp at this side of
the base of Kanji
pass.
Day 03: Kanji-la base –
Kanji-la (5150mtrs) Base
5-6hrs.
Today you will cross the first
pass of your trek.
Day 04: Kanji la Base –
Pigdong-la (5020mtrs) - Dipling
7-8 hrs.
After walking down stream for a
couple of hours you will reach
at a point where the two
streams coming from Kanji-la
and Pigdong-la will join each
other. From there you will turn
towards the left and after some
time you will cross Pigdong-la
before your get to
Dipling.
Day 05: Dipling-
Lingshet Sumdo 6-7
hrs.
Tie your sandal or slipper at a
side of your bag for today you
will be crossing the same river
time and again.
Day 06: Lingshet Sumdo
– Barmi-la _Lingshet
(Shangdong) 6-7
hrs
After walking for some time you
will leave behind Oma Tokpo and
go towards the left for
Lingshet. You will camp near a
Shangdong (wolf trap).The
locals use this structure to
catch wolf, a menace for the
villagers.
Day 07:
Lingshet –
Lanang
After breakfast you will
proceed towards Lingshet
village one the most isolated
village in Ladakh and visit the
Monastery. Explore the village
and come back to you
camp.
Day 08:
Lanang – Hanamula
(4900) - Jingchen 7-8
hrs.
Today is quite a strenuous day
for you have to climb on of the
steepest pass of your trek. You
will have great view from the
top of the pass. After that you
will walk down in a valley to
reach Nyetse-la. Have a great
view of the surroundings and
also see your camp down near
Oma Tokpo.
Day 09: Jingchen -
Hanamur 5-6
hrs.
Good chances seeing wild
animals like Urial, blue ship,
argali and Ibex on the mountain
side of Parfila pass. You will
camp at Hanamur, the first
village of Zanskar valley. They
have only two house
hold.
Day 10: Hanamur -
Zangla
5-6hrs.
Walk all along the Zanskar
River till you see another
village called Pidmo. From
there cross the river and
proceed towards Zangla. A visit
to the king’s home will be a
nice experience.
Day 11: Zangla -
Stongday
5-6hrs.
Though there is a road from
Zang-la to Padum but you will
seldom see vehicles moving.
There are two villages on the
way. Visit Stongdey Monastery
in the evening.
Day 12: Stongday -
Stongdey-la (4850mtrs) – Doksa.
6-7hrs.
It’s an up hill walk to cross
Stongday-la. Today again there
is a good of chances of seeing
wild animals. You will camp
near a Doksa (shepherd
hut).
Day 13: Doksa - Shaling
6-7hrs.
You have to cross the stream
several times while walking
along the valley.
Day 14: Shaling –
Shadey - Thangtak
6-7hrs.
Today again you will walk along
the valley. Before you reach
your camp, you will turn left
into a valley to see Shadey
village, one of the remotest
village in Zanskar. Come back
to your camp.
Day 15: Thangtak -
Phuktal 6-7
hrs.
Phuktal Monastery is famous for
its structure. It is built in a
cave on the side of Soft Rock
Mountain. The monastery is
built by Changsem Sherap
Zangpo, disciple of Gyalwa
Tsongkhapa, the founder of
Gelukpa sect of Tibetan
Buddhism.
Day 16: Phuktal -
Tarktal
As you are now in the wild
mountains, you will see wild
animals very often.
Day 17: Tarktal - Shun
Chomogon
Shun is again a very remote
village. The people lead more
like a nomadic life than
farmer. Animal products are the
main source of
livelihood.
Day 18: Shun -
Tsometsik
Recollect your fond memories of
the trek as you are now nearing
to the end of you
trek.
Day 19: Tsometsik -
Barandi nala 5-6
hrs.
T
oday is the last day of trek.
It is time to bid good bye to
the beautiful mountains of the
Himalaya.
Day 20:
Leh/Manali.
Drive either to Manali or
Leh.
Trek Ends.
